Is it possible to clean the microwave inside with lemon and how to do it right?

A microwave oven is one of the most popular appliances in the kitchen, which, if not properly maintained, will be covered very soon with burnt food, grease, and plaque.

If this situation does occur, there are simple and effective ways to deal with dirt with lemon.

All of them are based on almost the same principle and require minimal material costs: for most, you will need only lemon and water.

Find out about the most popular recipes that are tested by housewives from the article below.

Cleaning the microwave at home

How to wash the microwave oven from grease and other contaminants inside at home? This cleaning method is based on the principle of creating a steam bath and a trap for the evaporation of cleaning substances. A microwave will create a trap effect. It remains only to make an effective cleaning solution from the products that are always in the kitchen cabinet.

What is required:

  • Water (200-250 ml).
  • Capacity for water.
  • Half a lemon or two sachets of dry mix.

Recipe:

  1. Fill the container with water, pour citric acid into it or squeeze the juice out of half a lemon, and then put the fruit there.
  2. Next, put the dishes in the microwave and turn it on at maximum power for 5-7 minutes - depending on the degree of contamination. When the microwave turns off, wait a few more minutes. This is necessary so that the fumes of citric acid eat away the remaining fat and plaque on the walls of the stove.
  3. The next step is to remove the dishes, wipe the oven inside with a slightly damp sponge or a rag. In difficult places, you can moisten the sponge in the same solution or using a regular cleaning agent.
  4. Dry the inside of the microwave at the end.

This method has certain advantages and disadvantages:

  • One of the cheapest ways to clean.
  • Citric acid is an almost perfect cleanser.
  • It allows not only to eliminate fat and food debris, but also the unpleasant odor inside the microwave.
  • If the inner chamber of the microwave oven is coated with enamel, citric acid is often not worth using.
Thanks to lemon, you can clean the remains of burnt food, fat and a small coating. For stronger and older contaminants, other methods will have to be used.

Eliminate persistent stains with citric acid and vinegar

If the contamination of the microwave oven could not be completely eliminated in the previous way, you can use white vinegar.

What is required:

  • Lemon juice from 1-2 citrus fruits.
  • White vinegar (15 ml / 1 tablespoon).

Recipe:

Follow the instructions of the past method, but this time add vinegar to the lemon juice to dissolve the remains of the burnt food.

This method will increase the efficiency of using lemon in microwave cleaning several times. To prevent the oven from smelling of vinegar, mix the solution thoroughly. If there is no trace of burnt food in the microwave, do not add vinegar to the lemon solution.

How to wash with lemon essential oil?

An alternative to lemon is its essential oil. The product is diluted with hot water and applied to contaminated surfaces using a spray gun. It acts instantly, so immediately wipe the camera clean with a sponge.

For this method, you must buy the essential oil of lemon or other citrus, which is sold at any pharmacy at a cheap price.

Of the advantages of the application should be noted:

  1. Good fat breakdown.
  2. Surface disinfection.
  3. Aromatization of air.

Benefits of the slices of this fruit and other citrus fruits

This method is based on the principle of softening food debris and oxidizing particles of fat. This is due to the interaction of lemon peel with water vapor.

What is needed:

  • One lemon or any other citrus.
  • Container with water (400 ml).

Recipe:

Peel the lemon, put the crusts in a container with water and place it in the microwave. Turn on the oven for 5 minutes at maximum power. As the zest of the lemon is heated, particles begin to be released, which, in the process of interaction with water vapor, soften the dried up food residues and oxidize the particles of fat.

The principle of operation is the same as in the very first method. The only difference is that in this case, the furnace should run smoothly for at least 20 minutes.

Important! Be sure to control the water level - part of the liquid should remain in the container.

The methods described above are useful if the dirt in the microwave oven needs to be removed as soon as possible, and at home there is nothing but a couple of lemons. Old dirt and strong lemon deposits cannot be removed. However, these methods leave their rightful place to be in the piggy bank of any self-respecting housewife.
