Furniture options in the veranda and terrace, features

The summer playgrounds of the house can be decorated so comfortably that they will want to stay on them even in bad weather. Furniture for the veranda and terrace is the main focus of the interior. You can create a stylish design, both with the help of homemade armchairs from pallets, and with an exclusive modular teak group. To furniture was comfortable and cozy, you must choose the appropriate model.

Material requirements

Manufacturers offer such a large selection of furniture that it is not difficult to choose products of different price categories and styles. However, any item must meet several requirements:

  • Practicality - simple care will allow you to relax and not worry about spilled juice or grass stain on the upholstery;
  • Durability - furnishings are most in demand only in the warm season. Therefore, I want the furniture to last as long as possible and not have to update the sets annually;
  • Resistance to temperature extremes allows you not to remove products from the veranda in the house. That is, the furniture can simply be made up in the corner of the veranda and covered with covers or plastic wrap to protect against dust.

For closed terraces, the criteria are a little softer, here the furniture will be protected from the scorching sun or precipitation. Here you can install wicker furniture made of twigs, solid wood and even soft materials. But for open areas, only those products that can withstand all negative influences are suitable.

Varieties

The furniture for the veranda is so diverse that when choosing models you can focus on different criteria. If the owners constantly live in the house, then the atmosphere of the veranda / terrace is set at the beginning of the warm season and is brought into the room only for the winter. But many citizens choose to leave the cottage only on weekends and do not want to spend a lot of time arranging and cleaning furniture. Based on these requirements, and selected items:

  • Stationary furniture - installed at the beginning of the season and the entire period is outside the house. Such products are usually bulky and heavy. Soft groups (sofas, armchairs, pouffes) create a cozy atmosphere on the site throughout the summer period, and you can always seat many guests at a large dining table;
  • Mobile furnishings - are lightweight and modest in size. If desired, it is not difficult to move the dining group to another place or quickly move the long deck chair into the shade (especially if it is equipped with wheels).

According to the term of operation, furniture can be grouped as follows:

  • Durable - as a rule, these are expensive products that are made of high-quality strong materials that are resistant to changes in temperature and humidity;
  • "Disposable" items purchased for one or two seasons. They are inexpensive and it’s not a pity to part with them after a while.

Depending on the materials used, the furniture may be intended for outdoor or indoor areas:

  • Outdoor furniture easily tolerates direct sunlight and withstands long-term rainy weather. You can not worry about the safety of plastic or metal furniture;
  • "Shade-loving" objects are more sensitive to sunlight, high humidity. Therefore, products from the vine are installed on the veranda or covered terrace.

Creative models give the sites a non-standard interesting look. Frameless furniture in the form of inflatable soft poufs will appeal to children and youth. A popular trend is the installation of a hammock (in the form of a hanging chair / stove bench). The design is fixed on a rack-frame or fixed on the ceiling of the veranda.

Wood products

It is wooden furniture that most organically fits into the setting of a veranda or terrace. The product lineup is very large. Manufacturers offer customers as single items (chairs, armchairs, benches, tables), and furniture sets.

The most affordable material for the manufacture of products is pine. More prestigious models include pieces of furniture made from oak, ash, maple. All things are processed with special compounds that form a film on the wood surface that protects the material from insects, moisture, fungus.

The most durable and expensive is teak furniture (as in the photo), which can be outdoors all year round. In direct sunlight, the natural shade of wood may fade and become a slightly grayish tint. But this feature should not be considered a drawback.

Universal plastic

Artificial furniture is gaining more and more fans. Inexpensive items are lightweight, easy to fold, resistant to extremes of temperature and humidity. This material is very loved by designers. Furniture can have a traditional home look or original interesting shapes. Quality molded plastic products are expensive, but retain their original appearance even after a few years. Most often, stools, chairs, armchairs, and tables are made of plastic.

Metal furniture

For the summer veranda, it’s easy to pick up an interesting metal setting. Moreover, it is better to give preference to products having a metal frame, and not completely created from sheets. As a rule, the base is made of stainless steel or aluminum. The most popular are tables and chairs. A special advantage of furniture is that a person of any weight can lie on a metal deck chair.

Most often, different materials are combined in the manufacture of furniture. The seat of the chairs is fitted with natural or artificial leather, and glass or wood is chosen for the countertop. Metal furniture is difficult to damage even with heavy use. To prevent corrosion, objects are coated with special paint. Metal furniture fits perfectly both in the setting of a covered veranda and in the free space of an open terrace.

Optimum coverage

How pleasant it is to sit quietly in the evening on the open veranda and look at the stars, enjoy the fresh scent of flowers. Naturally, no one wants to hastily assemble furniture and take it to the house before going to bed. Therefore, for outdoor arbors, products are selected that are not harmful to the sudden summer rain or the bright morning sun.

Artificial Canvases

For the upholstery of upholstered furniture, special synthetic fabrics are used that perfectly tolerate the action of moisture or direct sunlight. Materials are made from acrylic fibers. Special impregnations give the fabrics water-repellent and dirt-repellent properties. Such canvases are wear-resistant, practically do not fade, very pleasant to the touch.

Modern materials no longer cause associations with a gloomy tarp. Manufacturers produce canvases of a variety of colors - from pleasant pastel shades to saturated bright colors. The texture of acrylic fabric resembles ordinary textiles.

Natural wood

The furniture for the veranda and terrace is made of wood specially treated with water-based coatings. Such formulations include natural oils that protect the material from fungi and mold. Mixtures do not emit unpleasant odors, are environmentally friendly, safe for people and animals. A special film does not crack over time, does not exfoliate and serves as an excellent protection against atmospheric precipitation.

Plastic

Manufacturers have developed so advanced technologies for the manufacture of furniture from plastic that it is sometimes difficult to determine the material - wood or plastic. Therefore, terrace furniture made of plastic is becoming more and more popular. Wicker patterns have a very sophisticated look and truly create a feeling of rest, relaxation. It is pleasant to sit in a hanging chair installed on the veranda and listen to birdsong or read a book. Since furniture wicker from a rod or rattan is very sensitive to changes in temperature and humidity, it is better to choose products braided with synthetic fiber. Items with such a decorative coating can be open-air throughout the season. But for the winter it is better to bring them into the room.

Care Rules

Covers furniture for an open veranda can be washed in a car, bleached and even stroked. To remove food stains from furniture upholstery, ordinary liquid detergent and a sponge are sufficient. To clean furniture decorated with woven synthetic fiber, it is advisable to use brushes - thus, dust and dirt will be better removed.

To prevent wooden furniture from drying out and not losing the beauty of the natural texture, various compositions are used. Means are selected specifically for a specific type of wood:

  • Painted pine furniture is cleaned with mild detergents that do not contain abrasive additives. If there are scratches or chips on the products, then these damage can be painted over. The main thing is to choose the composition of the corresponding shade;
  • For cleaning unpainted products, you can also use liquid detergent compositions. After cleaning, the furniture is sure to dry well and be coated with an oil compound. To absorb oil, it is necessary to withstand a certain period. The rest of the mixture is cleaned with a soft dry cloth. Such processing of products is recommended to be carried out at least twice a year - at the beginning and end of the warm season.

To protect furniture from dust, all items during storage are covered with textile fabrics. It is important that the fabric is “breathable” but dense. Terrace furniture must be chosen slowly. It is necessary to decide how the free space will be used, whether it is planned to receive guests or whether the atmosphere on the veranda will always be at home - “for your own”. If there is no clear idea, then for starters you can put only a couple of inexpensive chairs and a small table. Such an atmosphere will allow you to enjoy nature and it will be easy to update or supplement with other objects.
